My ticking appears after longer HWY driving when oil temps reach 240F (measured and the sandwich plate). Then the ticking is still persistent the next day after moderate warm up already. 24 hours later the ticking is gone and that feels like it is self healing. Also topping up fresh oil helps to get the ticking away (I have to add one quart every 600 miles anyway). I wonder if adding an oil cooler will fix the problem. Or does the tick happen with older D2s too, which have an oil cooler?

Think Im going to try and use my friends garage when I get back from my month of leave. Going to try all of your suggestions if that doesn't work. Will probably look into dropping oil pan see if anything is loose or removing front cover to see off oil pump is bad.
