This is interesting I hope he elaborates more on this.

I didn't entirely understand honestly but I guess there is a correlation to having a working throttle body heater feature and the jiggle pin functioning on the 45858 thermostat.

I would be interested to know if Charlie has a working throttle body feature.

But since I bypassed mine I just removed the jiggle pin and enlarged the hole.

Again I could be entirely butchering the point he was making. I just know how to put parts together. The truck is a big lego block to me. Doesn't mean I always understand how it works.

I don't think this has anything to do with the thermostat but Im getting a temperature spike upon start up it seems. This was occurring before I did the inline mod as well.

I just drove her around town and when I started her up and drove off the temperatures climbed to 221 before cooling down. However when it cooled it cooled down rapidly. It went to 221 to 188.6 in probably a few minutes. It never spiked again on the rest of my short trips just now.

It seems to happen when the truck hasn't been driven for at couple hours if not overnight. What would you try trouble shooting?

Its got a new radiator, fan and clutch. I also checked the pulleys for play and found none when I had the belt off. I thought I got all of the air out but I guess I could try again.
Funny that 188.6 seems to be the ideal engine temp, at least when using the UG.

I'm sorry... I had a typical Rover owner's [problems myself and lost track here. Did the temps settle down? I still have no hole in my thermostat and the temps are fine.

I bleed air from my system just as you did, but I always check it after driving the next day and the day after--air hides and ends up in the expansion tank/reservoir.

Yes I got it sorted out. I had to cut the jiggle pin off with a wire cutter and then I enlarged the hole to 3/16. She runs 183-188.6 now pretty much all the time. Sometimes 190-194.

Wow. Maybe I need to go back to the hole setup. What are your average outdoor temps? It was 105 here yesterday.

It's in the 90's pretty much every day here.

During the day she runs 186-188.6-190/194. At night she runs 183-188.6.

Well that is PERFECT. I'm going back to the hole. I drilled 1/8 so I'll make it a little bigger.

Congrats on the fix. Also congrats on the thread. You solved your issue, you talked it out and followed up, and I guarantee you have helped others (now or in the future). That's what makes this forum so amazing.

I just noticed the question about the return hose. When my plastic return line broke I just got some blue automotive silicon hose (I can't recall exactly what it is called... it is thicker than a radiator hose but very flexible) that fits the same opening and used it between the radiator and the expansion/overflow tank. I replaced all of my hard plastic lines with it. Looks snazzy and doesn't break when you touch it like the hard plastic can.

I have not bypassed my throttle body.

Yeah thanks man. What I can't seem to figure out is what was exactly causing the temperature spike with the old cooling system. Perhaps its possible the genuine 180 I got was flawed. Maybe I had issues with the hoses I ended up removing.

I really don't think it's possible I had air trapped in there but maybe when I took it apart to do the inline mod she finally burped something out when I refilled her.

Regardless this set up beats the hell out of stock. She also doesn't tick anymore(knock on wood). Sometimes the tapping appears but is is much more muted and eventually goes away. Haven't heard it in a while. So maybe I have a slipped liner. I'm not trying to find out lol.
