I choose my weapon based on what I expect to encounter. For target shooting or trouble of the 2 legged variety, I carry my Smith & Wesson M&P40. For areas where I can expect to encounter not so friendly animals, I carry my Glock 20 10mm Auto. Both pistols have at least 2 extra mags at all times and are locked and loaded. An unloaded pistol is useless.
