Put in a call and they say that, unfortunately, this happens on the areas of the rotors where the pads don't touch and it's normal. They say it won't throw ABS codes and that the best they have is an EBC rebuild kit. In any case, I've noted my call to them and let's see what happens this Winter.

Threadjack: over.

At least you have them on record. My concern is the actual rotor surface appears to have a slight rusty appearance.

Oh, I see. No, that's my horrible photography. That dark band is not actually on the surface where the pads touch, but rather it's on the horizontal "drum" (for lack of a better word.) The surface is nice and clean. There was some breaking in dust from the pads but I cleaned that off with brake cleaner shortly after the crosshatch marks wore off.

By the way, how do you know you need rotors?
Getting the thread back to the original question, haha...

I'll need rotors because they are getting a nice sized lip on the fronts and both front and rears are showing some deep scoring. Also, it seems like it is taking more pedal/distance to get stopped.

So, it sounds like great choices for rotors are:
1. DBA
2. EBC
3. LR oem

and great choices brake pads are:
1. Akebono
2. EBC

Any other thoughts?
Are regular auto part store brands (i.e. - Autozone, Advance Auto Parts, etc.) working okay for anyone?

Were are people sourcing your rotors and pads from?

thx...

What i can say is when I was researching pads I found several people that went from EBC to Akebono, I dont think I found anyone who went the other way.

Thanks drowssap for the brake pad information.

Now, I just wonder if I should save up for the DBA rotors. They do look cool...

I am a firm believer in Pilenga Rotors and Akebono Euro Ceramic pads. That's the only way i fly on my personal truck and my customers. The Pilenga's are made in France and the quality far exceeds the OEM junk that Rover used and the Chinese junk from the local APS. Wheels stay clean and the braking distances are significantly shorter than OEM metallic pads.
