Default What is this called?

Gentlemen,

1997 Discovery I, what is this called? It is mounted on the right side of the transfer case right in front of the Solenoid Cover. Where is best place/price for new one?

All help appreciated.

Not sure what the part name is but I believe that's the CDL positive engagement switch. OR it's the high/low positive engagement switch. The transfercase has two switches on it to let the computer know if the t-case is in high or low range and another switch to let itknow that the Center Differential Lock in engaged. That should clue you in enough to find what you need. Just find those two switches online and see which one looks like it.

That's your transfer case "neutral switch", I'm not certain what it does for you, though.
maybe turns on a light or chime?

luck,greg

Default Nuetral Switch

I believe you are right after a closer review of the Rave Manual.

Remove four screws and remove main gear
lever assembly.
6.

Drill out rivets and remove tunnel blanking plate.
7.

8.

Remove four retaining bolts and remove shiftlock
solenoid cover.
9.

Remove solenoid and spring washer.
10.

It is not the solenoid, that is under the little cover with 4 screws.

This is my best guess....

Nuetral indicator switch would be the same thing as the high/low positive engagement switch.

Guys,

What is the function of the Neutral Switch?

What is the effect of running the vehicle with the switch screwed in but not connected (wires pulled out of old one)?

In other words, does it affect anything for it to be out of the circuit?

Nothing as long as you can still shift the transmission and operate your HDC, TC, and high/low. The light on the dash just won't come on when the case is out of gear.
