Today I took my dad to "work" in the Rover. My father is an anthropoligist/archaeologist, and something of an expert on local Native American tribes. We went to look at a somewhat remote site, about 3 miles off the nearest paved road. That may not seem far, but it's 3 miles of dirt tracks, sandy washes, loose cobbles, and bare bedrock. After that we cruised the trails in the area, looking for other places to survey later. We drove about 20 miles of trails today. Everything from washboard dirt roads to loose, sandy hill climbs to some very mild rock crawling... and my favorite... a 2 mile stretch of loose baseball to basketball sized cobbles with random 6-8 inch bedrock shelves crossing the track... that was fun, right up to the point where the trail passed between two rock outcroppings and switched from double track to single track, at the top of a ridge, with no room to turn around... backing down while crawling boulders and bedrock until I found a spot wide enough to turn around was definitely the highlight of my day.

Sounds interesting work coupled with some wheeling. It's a bit like the desert 'down under' in Australia plenty of archaeology and rock strewn wilderness ................... also lots of unexplored trails.

Default I got a Head Job

I got to start my very own head job. Thanks to the Rave manual and other users threads. This has been a fairly simple task this far.

Installed the Hyundai purge valve to fix the PO455 and diagnosed the front crank seal as the cause of our puddles.

I replaced the wiper blades and all the parts have shown up for my double din radio install. Time to start cutting. Hopefully it turns out as well as the one earlier in this thread.

Default Audio botch job fix!!!!

So I broke my own rule by buying an automobile w aftermarket audio installed.... The previous owner has a double din "custom" install radio that sticks our like an inch and a half... The whole radio and a/c bezel hangs down slightly...

He did have a very nice jl audio 500/5 amp installed so I figured the speakers would be aftermarket as we'll but no....

So basically I put in alpine component sets in the front doors and went to tune the amp and the set screws on the amp are stripped.... So basically I have to take the amp apart and fix that now...

I will say that the component sets are a nice direct replacement... Mine are 6.5... I know the disco has 3 way components but I bypassed the 4" in the door and put the tweeter in the factory a pillar location...

I'm going to get a new radio bezel and radio and go through the rest of the system soon... Going to bypass rear door subs and do a fiberglass 8" sub install... I've got the door/ a pillar pics that I'll post soon!

Quietly cursed the Rover gods as the three amigos returned returning to work from my lunch break. First time years ago was the shuttle valve switches which I fixed and they were gone for years. Then my SLABS ecu developed a fault causing the amigos to return. Borrowing one from a friend's D2. The other week, they visited briefly while my master cylinder cap seals were leaking brake fluid onto the LF sensor connector. Cleaned it off and they disappeared. Now am waiting for my delayed Christmas present: an Autocom scanner so I can see what's going on this time.

Grr

Not me, but I had Land Rover Manhattan replace my windshield after a rock nailed it.

Well, I guess they were in a giving mood this season, because about 5 minutes into my drive I discovered that I was definitely looking through a heated windscreen that I definitely didn't drop the truck off with (it came with a non-heated version).

Switch, relays, and BCM reprogramming will happen in the coming days.
