I used my brothers hoist and changed out the muffler. It finally has a little more sound. I’m thinking I should replace the little muffler at the back with a straight pipe, what do you guys think?

One step closer to finding the tick...and I'm gonna find it!
So far, engine looks good inside.
I'll know once I get time to take it apart and measure everything.

go ahead and pin those cylinders if you weren't loosing water internally.

Look your heads over good for signs of steam cleaning. Mine had three that were clean as a whistle.

Brian.

Heads and cylinders look great. No steam cleaning, no excessive carbon build up, even on tops of liners.
No signs of slipped liner on block decks, and no sleeve impressions on bottom of head gaskets anywhere...but you better belive I'm pinning all 8! lol, no way am I tearing it all the way down and not.
I'm curious as to all the bearings's condition now, and I'll probably have time by the weekend to get the engine apart. Cylinders all still have a nice cross hatch pattern too.
Someone has definately been in the engine before, because as suspected, the rear main seal was leaking.
Someone used alot of silicone which bled out the back/flywheel side, and the seal is in crooked, futher in at bottom than top.
Oh well, so far so good.
I really want to get the pistons out, so I can measure the skirts. To see if that's the ticking culprit.
I'll post my results.

No heating or coolant issues at all, but definately pinning all 8. Better safe than sorry.

Used my Disco to drive out to look at another Disco that was for sale.

Why the heck do I need another Disco?!?!?

Yeah, bought it. I think I must have a screw loose somewhere.
