what to do about stained trim?

I would test Spike's theory, though, myself: before painting, pick a piece, put it out in the sun for a couple hours, and go away.

When you come back, get right up on top of it quick, and see if you can smell the smoke.

the car wasnt moving when the fire happened and the vents were closed, to this day i dont smell anything bad, most of the interior is gone anyways... carpet was replaced, seats are new headliner is gonna be stripped and painted... just the plastic is stained... cant smell anything except the soap i used!!

I painted my head liner too... black. with reg spray paint. I wouldn't use any type of bed liner crap. As far as the trim pieces... leave them tan

my trim peices arent tan anymore, they are smoke damaged so i must paint them, or buy new
