What do you think of this craigslist steal?
That's the big gamble.... on one hand the vehicle has had all its service intervals completed by authorized land rover dealer, but on the other hand the truck now has 130k and a engine tick. I did not notice the tick until after we got back from a 4 mile long test drive, we let it idle then I noticed the ticking...
Worst case scenario I'll have to have the engine rebuilt. I will start by bring the truck to DAP enterprise and have them use their land rover expertise to pin point the problem then I'll go from there. Anyone know on average how much a engine rebuilt goes for?

In all likely hood that engine will tick for a long time. Just watch for overheats and take care of it. Start a rebuild or engine replacement fund. I wouldn't freak out about it. I'm willing to bet 90% of the 03-04 Discovery's tick now(if on original motor). I think mine has it too but I've never really noticed it until I thought about it.
An engine replacement fund? Never thought of that but it sounds like a dam good idea. I wonder though, would this be an excuse to save up for a diesel conversion? Or should I save up for another 4.6 engine?
I value these records like gold! I'm definitely getting a frame for them

Yes the video is a little weird. Considering how long it took me to figure out how to open the bonnet, and I'm generally very camera shy. But I really felt the need to make a brief recording of the truck.
Yes shortly after I left, the seller figured out how to turn those aux lights on lol. Apparently they had to call their daughter to figure it out seeing how she was the only person who really drove the disco. Speaking of which does anyone known if it is illegal to drive around town and on the highway with those Aux lights uncovered and turned on?
light regulations are different from state to state.
In Ma. your driving lights mounted in the bumper are fine. Your aux. light mounted on the grill are not allow on public roads as they are to close to the center of the vehicle.
Ask me how I know; my 67 gta has a early 67 shebly grill (center high beams) a good inspection station will call me on them, halfway thru 67 DOT made Shebly move the light out to the side of the car.

Alright sounds good, I'll give the local NH DMV a call just for the hell of it to inquire about the lights.
Now what about the ticking engine fund? Should I just save up for another 4.6 or a diesel engine and conversation? If the 4.6 are prone to these ticking issues, even when well maintained then wouldn't it be cheaper in the ling run to get the diesel?

I watched that video again and honestly that tick sounds like nothing. If it performs well with no issues I would just run a heavier oil to try and quite it. No point in wasting money to rebuild it when it's not necessary. Seriously it sounds fine. If it bothers you that much try to fix it, but I'm willing to bet that engine will last a while with good maintenance.
