What on earth does this mean?? (Picture)
Okay, yes the timing chain kit comes with all of the needed components, good call. So to do the oil pump, i just need the gear kit?
Sorry I may be asking dumb questions, having never done this before I just feel like it would be a total buzz kill to get knee deep in this and then realize I don't have all of the necessary components to do the job since I'll be doing the work on weekends in Tulsa.
So let me get this straight... in the process of doing HG's, oil pump, and timing chain, I will also be resealing my front cover and oil pan? If so, that means the only other potential leak I would have are the cross seals--any way I can do those too while I'm at it? I'm honestly not even sure what they are lol
Am I naive to be excited?
ALSO: I want to change the timing chain, but the RAVE shows this special pulling tool to get the timing cover off. That tool is like $250. How do you do this without it?
What kind of RTV do you guys use with your gaskets?

Captain, get a second opinion on your work separate from O'Briens. O'Briens can be a little shady at times. I've talked to them a couple of times and they were trying to over charge me big time. A co-worker used them once to figure out an issue and they basically bent him over and let him have it. Ended up charging him $1200 for a $300 job. The owner of that shop has been a little sketchy, but the kid working for him is a good guy.
It's nice to see another COWBOY on here!!! I live in Owasso and have 2 D2's... an '04 for my wife, and a '99 for me. We are both graduates of OSU (2003) and go to almost every home football game. If I don't make it to the games, I'm definitely in front of a tv watching.
Anyway, here is the website for a guy that I use... Pearl District Automotive : Contact. I just had my '99 in his shop about 3-4 weeks ago for a water pump that I didn't have time to mess with. When you call them, ask for Matt Curtis. He's the mechanic and really knows his stuff. He's about 30 yrs or so, but knows what he's talking about and knows LR's. He is a high school friend of my wife & sis-in-law and seems to be a good kid. He just bought the shop he's working out of and trying to get it fixed up. It doesn't look like much, but don't let that fool you. I don't know what he'll say about it, but Matt could definitely give you another opinion. He'll even let you buy parts and bring them in if you want. Many places won't do that any more. Even if you do decide to try this yourself, he may be able to help you and your dad through the process. If he asks, you can tell him Brandi & Matt Moore referred you to him.

And I agree--another Pokes fan is always welcome around here=] I go to all the home games as well, section 321. You'll have to hit me up if you're ever in town, we could swap Disco stories haha. I feel like I'm about to enter some kind of club by taking on the HG's.
If you do the front cover here is a vid to tell you more about the cover and gaskets
