What to look for in a used 4.0- will bar replacing a 4.6
My 4.6 is making a rAcket. So the engine will be replaced. To build with top hat liners will cost a lot, so was looking for another option.
Nope. Not that simple. You need to make a few changes to the setup. Here's a writeup about going the opposite direction: Frankenrover - Swapping a Bosch D2 4.6 engine into a GEMS D1 Land Rover Discovery. Not sure how you are going to deal with the SAI thing.
would i need to do any machine work? or does it all fit? just looking for the least exspensive replacement option. Love the truck and would hate to have to part it out in order to replace the engine
You would need to re bore and oversize the Pistons, the Rings would try to jump over the ridge left by the lesser stroke.
"You would need to re bore and oversize the Pistons, the Rings would try to jump over the ridge left by the lesser stroke" If you need to bore it and replace the piston then it wasnt a good block to begin with.
if you get a 4.0 block it would need to be honed and replace the rings and bearing.
