I'm thinking about going ToddCo as well. They've got the front housing that an 03 t-case would need for $400 bucks. I believe the linkage comes with that as well.

 

FYI I pulled a D1 shifter out of a junk yard for $35. This was before cash for clunkers so there are many more D1s sitting in junk yards now. check the PAP and local salvage yards in your area.

What's the advantage of using a 2004 shifter vs. a shifter from a D1 or an early D2? I've got a 2003 DII.

 

Linkage, be it D1 or 04 is extra.
Most D1 linkage can be bought for around $125 give or take, the 04 cable linkage can run $350 and up.
The D1 linkage is less expensive and pretty common to find, if not used a lot it does have a tendency to freeze up so you want to shift it once a month to keep everything moving. The 04, being a cable system is easier to install, shift and rarely if ever freezes up.
