Default What size lift do I need for my new tire/wheel setup?

I recently put on 17" wheels with a 4.5" backspacing with 250/70R17's (31"x10") mounted on them. My suspension is stock and I had to trim a small bit off of the front bumper so that they would turn without rubbing. The bigger problem is that the tires push into the fenders when the suspension is compressed. Does anyone know what size lift I need to stop this? I'm looking at Terrafirma's "All Terrain Medium Duty" kit which offers 2" of lift. Will this be enough or will I have to bump stop it?
Thanks for reading.

I think the back spacing is more of a issue than the tire size. 2" lift should be more than enough though.

Thank you! I realized that the backspacing was the issue after I mounted them. The 4.5" gives it such a nice look though that I decided to keep it since I was planning on a lift anyways. Good to know that 2" will be enough.

Here is the thing though the way the tires stick out when you articulate the suspension you may still run into issues. Now if this is a flat land truck that won't be as much of an issue.

The way I would test the theory on the lift if you have a few basic tools. Such as a jack, pair of jack stands and a tape measure.

I would jack up the front and put the jack stands under frame points not the axle or suspension. Use the tap measure to get it as close to 2" (measure from the ground to a fixed point) as you can then you can turn the wheels and see if they clear. If they don't clear move it up to 3" and repeat. Not a perfect method but should do the trick.

I had the 2" RTE coils, mswapped them with 3" couple years later. The 3" gives you more options as far as tire/rim/backspace. I'd go with 3", same money.

I have the same issue as the OP but my stance was made with stock wheels and 2 inch wheel spacers. I have the tires in my signature (33 by something) and with a 3 inch lift plus a liittle more under the spring perches. Pile on bumper and winch, and I am at about 3.5 over stock. Mine rubs the back of the front fender when I turn and hit a bump or change, such as the bottom of my driveway. It is real irritating.

Back to the point, with my lift the tires did not rub the fender until I added the wheel spacers, which mimics your backspacing. I actually got the spacers because my tires rubbed inside, and limited my turning radius. I kicked them out to resolve that and for looks, and bought a separate problem.

If my tires ever wear out, I am getting your tires, and I am confident they will clear with room to spare.

So, depending on tire width, you should be okay with 3 inches depending on the springs. Mine are TF, which I am told give a true 3 inches but are the equivalent of a 2 inch RTE lift.

FWIW, here is what mine looks like from the back. Sticks out quite a bit. That's the issue at a partial turn combined with a bump.

I'm useless; that's the best picture of the "stance" I can find.

Had 265 on my D1, switched to 235/85 16 .

It has wheel spacers and a small 2" lift.

265 tires

235/85 16 tires, Nokian Outpost.
