I would go with the K&N or WIX. Fram doesn't filter well....These things have a tendancy to carbon up.

I useRoyal Purple10-40. Many people use Mobile 1. The important thing here is to change it regularly..

No more Fram filters, they use junk pressure valves and can cause dry starts in the morning. As for the oil, I use Castrol Blend, a partial synthetic 10W/30. I run a K&N 3001 oil filter, the other filter I really like is the Mobil1 oil filter.

I know this is an old thread, but I see that the RAVE states 5W30. I'll admit to not being any type of oil expert. I'm in Boise, ID and it gets pretty damn hot here in the summer (105 and up) and on occasion dips down to 0. Mike, why do you run 10W30? Just curious, as I'm following nearly all of your other reccomendations to the letter.

Mobil 1 10w-30; 5 qts and 1 qt Lucas Oil additive. K&N 3001 filter. But like everyone says, always keep up with your oil changes. I usually change mine every 3-5K miles. but ALWAYS by 5K. I'm used to driving my air cooled VW, so I like to change oil as a preventative measure.

I just changed mine. I like the bigger KN 3001 filter, it allows you to put in exactly 6 quarts, otherwise it's like 5.5. What do you do with an extra 1/2 a quart?

Also, when you pre-fill your filter, it will hold a lot of oil, but you have give it time to soak into the medium. If you just fill it and screw it on right away it will only be about 1/4 full, kind or pointless.

I just found some super-tech full synthetic (5 qts) for like $13. It may be cheap, but any synthetic has got to be better than most dinos.

I use Mobil 1 15w50 and Mopar filters. If you go to Wal-Mart you can buy the oil and filter for under $30. I change mine every 5,000 miles. It makes it easy to remember, just changed it at 170,000 so the next change is at 175,000. I dont worry about the 100's, just change it every time a "5" or a "0" shows up in the 3rd spot from the left.
A Pep-Boys just closed here, so I bought 3 case's of M1 15w50 for under $30 each and 3 Purolator filters for $10..for 3. I was going to buy a Mobil one filter too but they were still twice the price of a single filter.
