Default Whats better for off road/foul conditions?

Disco 1, Disco 2, Lr3, range rover, classic???

I'm not counting defenders because I at least need a little interior in it, I'd assume those are the most extreme though...

I'm thinking about lifting my disco and putting some off road stuff on it, but before I start spending serious money am I in the right land rover? I've got a 98 d1

Stay with what you have, it is a great truck for off the road and will be easy to modify. What sort of wheeling do you want to set it up for?

I have a '97 Disco I with a 2" lift and 31" tires. I have wheeled with other LRs (Discos and Range Rovers) and the Range Rover did a little better than my '97. Basically, the longer wheel base on the Range Rover help it out for certain obstacles. In general, my lifted Disco doesn't have enough wheel travel to handle the class 3 and above trails (http://xterra101.com/moabratings.htm). If you are just hitting forest service roads, a light lift (like a 1.5" to 2.0") and bigger tires will be enough. If you are hitting trails with lots of medium to large rocks and big ruts, you might want to reconsider bringing your Disco.

Sure the longer wheel base can help, but for a bad as the selling prices of Rovers is right now, you would take a financial beating, it's not worth it.

I might be wrong, but I though a shorter wheelbase is better for offroading since you will have a better overcenter angle and will have a less of a chance of being high centered.

Not always, it is surprise how the longer bodys have generally an easier time in most off road trails.

xb70valkarye, I wheel with guys with long wheel base and short wheel base vehicles. The short wheel base vehicles do well, but the longer wheel base vehicles do better getting on and getting off obstacles. For rock hopping, the shorter wheel base vehicles do a little better, but most of the wheeling that I do (and most people do) is not boulder hopping. A lot of the old school short wheel base guys are going to a little longer wheel base vehicle. A bonus to a longer wheel base is more storage space.
