Good to see you are getting this rig sorted!
I've used OME springs many times with zero issues...I think you will have the same experience.

" Now to fix the oil leak at the rear diff flange..."

If you haven't already bought the pinion seal, then do yourself a favor and get a CORTECO FTC5258G.
From L8, RovahFarm, etc... you'll be glad you did.

Thanks for the tip on the Corteco seal, I was thinking the exact same thing as I skimped out and put a Britpart seal in the first time around when I swapped the rotoflex for a standard u-joint. Topped up the diff oil, it only took a couple squirts so all good there.

I better go double check that I'm not planning on putting any Britpart seals into my transfer case rebuild

I did a quick test drive... I don't know if its the springs or shocks, or both... but it handles wayyy better. Dips I'd normally have to slow way down for, I can barrel through.

OMG don't get me started on anything from $HITPART!!!

Just a headsup, and you probably already know this but check the pinion seal mudshield is in good shape and it's the correct part number. The FTC5258G seal uses the FTC5317 mudshield.

And now it's time to finish a few more......

I don't know, I have quite a bit of Britpart stuff on my rig, including engine rebuild components. Only the seal has failed me so far.. and maybe I installed it wrong, as I can spin the mud shield around.

I have the STC4858 rear flange (for defender), does that make a difference in which seal to use?

edit: According to the microcat for defender, FRC8220 is superceded by FTC5258, so FTC5258 and FTC5317 are the ones to use. The older style flange, STC3722, uses the other seal and mudshield.

edit 2: I think my error is that I used the spacer. STC3722 uses the spacer, STC4858 does not... based on what I'm reading

Britpart is a reseller, more than a manufacturer. Some parts are good, others are bad. I've personally had good luck with everything britpart I've used.

STC4858 uses FTC5258G(SEAL) and FTC5317 (MudS).

The flange height of STC4858 should be 61mm so NO SPACER (part#: 539745) is needed.

I think the spacer in question is TYF101160, which is sandwiched between the nylock nut and flange. Use it or no?

Yes, you need the flange retaining washer between nut and flange.
I don't remember the washer being #: TYF101160, I thought it was FTC5413 (see pic). When you install the washer and the NEW locknut (you are getting a new one right ) just check that you have proper thread engagement into the nyloc.
Torque wrench time!!!

Have a look at this site, there is a lot of very good info re: the different pinion flanges.

And the spacer (539745) is the 1st pic just for reference. In your case not needed providing the flange is 61mm in height.
I hope all this B$ makes some sense.

Got it... I may be getting my flanges mixed up... I was thinking of the big locknut + thick washer/spacer used on the transfer case side... but now that I'm digging my memory, the flange to the rear diff is secured using a bolt, no washer?

Yes it's possible the pinion takes a bolt (#12 in the pic above post/28) instead of the locknut. I just depends on what pinion was installed from the factory. And that is why when you buy the STC4858 as a kit it comes with BOTH the bolt and locknut.
It's a PITA until you open the thing up to know for sure which option you need to use.

Either way the bolt FS1102301P or the locknut both use the washer FTC5413.
No worries you'll get it sorted.
