Default RE: Wheel Bearing

I had not mentioned before that I bought the vehicle with the bearing going out. If I had owned the vehicle I would have parked it and bought the part. I am just glad that this went out on my road and not on the drive home(interstate).
So, Disco Mike, maybe you should not be so quick to jump to conclusions. I'm sure that you here from a lot of knuckleheads, but not everybody is one. I'm just trying to get used to the quirks of a foreign vehicle. I think American-made are a little easier to figure out overall.
Anyway, love my new Rover and can't wait to have it running again.

You might want to re read my post, I didn't refer to you as a knuckle head, only mentioned it is too bad you were not paying any attention to the trucks noise.

Sorry if a little defensive, wasn't expecting criticism from the moderator. Just new to the forum looking to learn more about my new Disco and save some $ on repairs. Please don't boot me out of the forum, as I really have liked it so far.

Can you tell me anyone if the half shaft would need axle dope or if that only requires grease? I hate to put it on and do it wrong, my part will be here on Friday, so really hoping to not have to guess. I am not going to get my new mechanics manual in time for this repair as it is not shipping that fast.
Any help from anyone would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Dont worry about getting the boot, as long as you keep the language clean and dont offer to much stupid advice. That being said this is a public forum and any and all advice is to be taken at your own risk.
As far as what to use..I cant help you, sorry. I can say that I have never heard of axle dope, any CV joint that I ever had replaced was done at a shop.

When replacing the boot after installing a new cv joint, RAVE says to use a Band-it thriftool to secure the inner and outer securing bands. I'm assuming the bands need to be fairly tight to keep water out when off road? That being the case how tight should they be and what can be used to tighten them? I can't find a place to get the Band-it thriftool (with out ordering like 50 of them).

When I replaced that boot on a frontwheel drive Chevy that I had years ago I just used a rachet to tigthen the band.
Not sure how it works with the kit you have.

Its to late now, but in future "if" you have to do it again, split the hub from the driveshaft whilst its on the car, then theres no CV , shaft , oil seals etc etc to mess with, makes the job MUCH easier and quicker as well
