Default Wheel Changes

I am going to change the standard 16" stock wheels on my 01 DII with 18" wheels. Is there an adapter or gear I can get to have the speedo be accurate?? Thanks for any information.

Tire diameter is going to be dependent on which tires you put on it. You can get 16" tires that have a larger diameter than 18" tires.

Either way, the speedo on a D2 is electric, so no gear adapter possiblle.

To add to what he said, the Disco 2's came from the factory with either 16 inch wheels or 18 inch wheels, and the tires on both were 29" tall. So no speedo changes are needed if you stick with stock size tires.

There is a guy on some of the forums that put toyota axles in his D2, and used a superlift box to adjust the speed signal sent to the computers.

I too was thinking of going to a 16 inch mud & snow for the winter, what was the stock 16 inch tire size?

So for both of you who are going to 16's, what size are you thinking about? Might want to step up in size going to a 245/75/16 for a better ride and better selection of tread designs.

Stock 16" size was 255/65/16. I will be going to 245/75/16 when I get the money to ditch these stupid Grabber UHP summer/street tires that came on it.

It sounds like he wants to go to 18's from 16's.

There should be no issue as previously stated since 18's came from the factory as well as 16's. And since you are doing the opposite of what most other folks do, you should be able to get the 18" rims on a straight trade for your 16's. If I still had18's I would trade you in a second.
