Where to add front recovery point/s
2004 Disco II with ARB bull bar and warn winch. I would like to add at least 1 additional recovery point other than the winch. The ARB bar doesn’t seem to be a smart place to mount one as the metal seems a bit thin to me. Looking for ideas and input to make the right choice. Pictures welcome!

I would like to keep the ARB but figured it might mean modifying it for recovery points at the frame rails. At which point I might be convinced to replace it.
Take a look at how your bumper mounts there were 2 different mounting methods and the original one was notorious for the problems @Sean Maginness described.
Originally the ARB bumper mounted strictly via the crash cans, this allow from bending when recovering at an angle.
The changed mounting system added a support to the inside at about 45 deg that reduced ability of recover at an angle deforming the crash cans.
There was quite a lot written about ARB Bumper's bending on Disco II's.
As to where to put another recovery point, you could just add a steel plate in front and behind of a recovery point to reinforce it.

That hook is a factory tow point. A lot of folks end up tossing that when they put on steel bumpers.
That should suffice for towing and winching needs. I don't know how I'd feel about using it for ****** recovery.

In the second picture it looks like you have the 45 deg piece.
But you also have the stock recovery loop under there.
You could hook up to that as an additional recovery point I have been winched up a pretty nasty rock river bed using that point.

I have this set of bow shackles and backing plates that are ready to go but I really don’t want to drill holes only to find I should have mounted them elsewhere.
