Whining sound from front of engine?
The sound is coming from the very front of the engine. It sounds like it's coming from the AC compressor, could it be a bad AC bearing? The power steering pump was whining but I replaced it with a brand new one and that fixed that noise but it's still making the other whine that it has since I bought it. The sound gets louder with engine speed, and it happens anytime you press the gas pedal. For example, if I'm driving around and have my foot on the gas, it makes it constant whirring or whining sound. But as soon as I take my foot off it stops. I also just replaced the belt tensioner pulley and the belt. I'm hoping it's just a bearing or idler pulley. I really don't want to have to replace the alternator or AC compressor if I don't have to. I've been trying to trace it down for sometime now. Everytime I drive it that noise gets very annoying if the radio isn't on 😡
Could be. Or one of the idler pulleys, or the alternator. Get one of the $4 stethoscopes from HF and you should be able to pinpoint it quickly.
I'll try that, only reason I haven't is, I know sound can travel throughout the engine. Especially with metal parts and vibrations, so it can be a kind of hard to pinpoint things like that
