Default Whirling noise

I just started to notice this. When the transmission is getting ready to shift from first into second at the top end I hear a whirling noise is this normal or should I be worried about something.

Start by checking the fluid level and the condition of the fluid.
I dont know how many miles are on your truck but it wouldnt hurt to change the fluid and filter.

I don't know if the 60,000 mile service was done and I have been planning to do Mikes major service, as soon as the weather breaks that way if I get stuck I can use my other vehicle. I love my disco but man I think it was a bit abused. I changed the oil a few weeks ago (first oil change I had ever done) and the stuff was black and smelled burnt. So I think this weekend will be the time to flush all the fluids and replace.
