I swore I'd never buy one. I worked at a LR dealership during the oil pump debacle. (I also worked at a LR dealer when I first started working on cars but that was 1968 so things changed). I wanted something to replace my DD 92 Cherokee with a zillion miles on it, I also wanted something more comfortable than my 74 Series III (it is kind of a tractor). Besides, I'm retired and have a shop and a lift at my house so I can play with the Disco at my leisure. (and have other vehicles to drive if I need to)

Same here.

In all seriousness I bought one because of its unique styling, upscale interior, high seats, tall side windows offering great visibility, versatility (towing and space to haul stuff).

I was looking for a used four wheel drive. i was originally looking at a jeep grand cherokee. The styling of the land rover sold me. After a month i wish i went with the jeep, because at the time i didn't know the rover took premium and got 15 mpg on the highway. Eighteen month and a lot of greasy weekends later, i'm starting to like the rover. I'll like it more when it's pay off...and "fixed".

Bought a Nissan Xterra, rolled it before my full coverage insurance kicked in 2 days later. Then my Chev half tons engine went. Sooo I thought I would buy an 03 disco just because it SEEMED like a great deal. 30ks and $10000 in repairs later I actually love it. Well, it's a love hate relationship....

Drove an E-class MB for a while. Then I bought a Jeep TJ. After a year or so, I just couldn’t handle the stripped down no-frills design of the Jeep. I missed the little things like Automatic climate control, heated leather seats and a roof. I started looking for something a bit more middle of the road as far as off-road capability vs. on-road comfort. I found the Disco 2 to be just about perfect. So perfect in fact that after buying the Disco, our other car at the time suddenly seemed to be just about unusable for most of my wife’s tasks (trips to the shore, camping, taking the dogs to the vet, etc) and she constantly drove my Rover over her car. A few months later, we sold my wife’s car & bought her a disco also.

Simply put, I thought it was the coolest car/truck I've ever seen. ( still do)

I had two options. Either dig a large hole in the ground and shovel money into it, or buy a Disco II.

I didn't have a shovel handy.
