This is certainly true, but that’s always been true. The Disco price escalation is recent. Other variables are at play.

The interesting thing is how separate BAT market is from the locals, even high-income areas. I turned down a D2 for 12,750 in SF Bay, and it sold for 18k on BAT a few weeks later!

 

Mine was the one that sold for 30k on BAT markets crazy if you have one sell it and buy another back in 1 year when prices go back below 10k

Why do you think prices will drop next year?

 

I just feel they are over inflated because of the used car market right now. Just google the user car market you will see article after article of record prices. Even though these are going to be more popular I think the prices will still go back down after covids gone

 

I just don't see the prices of the older Rovers going down. If anything they are going up. Your Disco was proof of that. A fine example by the way. If I knew someone would pay me $30k for mine today I would be hard pressed not to let it go. They are few and far between and people want a cool unique SUV that turns heads and isn't a computer on wheels. The auto industry is changing. The future is electric. People see this and want to own something unique and older.

If you find a good one that some idiot hasn't let boil over then it's very do-able to have the head gaskets done and head machined. I had mine done 2 years ago then used it to tow a travel trailer across country. I'm fortunate that I lived in an area with GOOD rover mechanics. I also change the oil every 3K with GOOD oil.. conventional high mileage.
Sadly there are no such mechanics in PA and I'm just beginning to understand the frustration owners feel with Discos. I swear every repair I've had done by a regular mechanic just does more damage.
My Rover has 150K miles and is still rock solid and very cool

 

On the other hand a 2-3k Disco is just a remanufactured Turner engine from an appreciating collectible.
