I just read somewhere that the greasable u joints will lose their grease and dry out faster because the DII drive shafts are too close to the exhaust? Not sure about this but I'll check under the vehicle tomorrow. If anyone can confirm or deny before then that would be great. Thanks!
BUT that's why you get a GREASABLE U joint drive shaft to add grease to extend the life of the joints. Hit the U joints with some grease at every oil change and life is good. Simple routine maintenance.

X1 .... that and cost of production, every penny counts, that's why Ford always design to use 2 bolts instead of 3. Bearing in mind most D2's only stay with the original buyer/owner for 3 years max until the warranty expires and are then traded into the open market.

Greasable joints or non-greasable......It's true that the location of the U joints next to the cat/exhaust doesn't help the lifespan of the joints.

Thanks for all the help guys, really appreciate it. Also, I know this is an old question, but what oil do you guys run? I have been running Mobil 1 synthetic extended performance 10W-30 in it since I bought the car at 65k miles on it. It has 85.3k on it now and after doing some research I'm not sure if I should keep running synthetic or switch it to regular oil. I also feel like I should run 5W given how cold it's been lately (-16 w/o windchill tonight). Do you guys run 30/40 and what brand?
