I was stopped in netural at first but then let it roll foward a bit..btw do discos have chain or gear driven transfer cases?

all gears... but yeah, it sounds like its the shifter solenoid, or maybe even just the input to it, see if the car starts in nuetral, if so, its probably the solenoid

There is alot to be said regarding the solenoid, if it is bad, you can't shift past neutral to low.

not 100% here, but i dont think itll let you shift out of high without the solenoid working... can you shift out of high in drive?
