Default Will not shift into diff lock

Hi, I have a fairly new to me 1996 disco. I cant seem to get it into diff lock. I can shift between high, low, and neutral but cant get it to move to the lock diff gear. Any tips?

D1's need to be shifted monthly to keep the linkage from freezing up.
Sounds like yours is frozen, how long since you used it?

I am not sure when it was last used and I can hold my own when it comes to basic stuff on my rover

I know this thread is several years old... but couldn't find a newer one that looked as promising. Unfortunately the link from Spike is no longer live. If there's an updated link (or a definitive thread on it) can you please reply with it.

1997 Disco 1, owned it for 2 years, have never been able to move diff lock - its stuck in High - unlocked. Would like to get it moving and actually use it. In reply to Mike - pretty mechanical, just don't want to damage anything so looking for steps/guidance.

Thanks

I'm just a driveway mechanic on a budget but... get some PBblaster and find the linkage under the truck near the transmission. Spray it every day for a week and gently work the lever inside the truck. After a week or so it may break free. Also it wouldn't hurt to spray the the linkage inside the truck as well. I did this on my d2 and got it free.

If that doesn't work you may need a new linkage set up.

There are a few pictures on my instagram-@discobudgetbuild
