Had my heated replaced a couple months ago for $1200. They even called my insurance to make sure they would pay for that expensive a repair. Just under the max.

Safelight quote me almost $800.

Steve

Who did you have replace it? I'll keep them in mind for next time

Default Adding a heated windshield

I do not have a heated front windshield but noticed that there are two unused plugs on either side of the windshield on the front cowl. Is my truck prewired just like my front seats. If it is how do you turn it on I am guessing by the defrost button. I noticed my side rear glass looks like it is heated as well is this hooked up if I don't have a heated windshield. What about the mirrors I thought I read somewhere that the cold weather package came with heater mirrors as well. What would it take to convert my nonheated to heated mirrors

The side windows are not heated on any of the Rovers--that is your antenna.

Yes, the unused plugs on the cowl are for the heated front screen option. Pre-wired, just like the heated seats (if you have the leather package). On the models with the heated front screen option, there is a button either just above or just below (I don't remember) the heated rear screen button. It has a similar look to the heated rear screen, but the image on the button is rounded at the top instead of flat like the rear screen heater button. Mine doesn't have this option so it just has a blank where the button would go. You could purchase a heated front screen and button, but, I believe, you would need to have the BCM reprogrammed to allow function.

As per Bikingteacher, the wires in your rear side glass are antennas- one side AM, one side FM, I believe.

The mirrors: I can neither confirm or reject whether they only came with the cold climate package. My owner's manual is for a 2001 (even though it is a 2000 (previos owner probably lost the original and bought something close from EBAY)) and it states:
the door mirrors have integral heating elements which disperse ice or mist from the glass. These will operate in conjunction with the heated rear window.

However, the manuals on Rave for 2001 and 2002 state: In some markets the door mirrors have integral heating elements which disperse ice or mist from the glass. These will operate in conjunction with the heated rear window.

In both manuals, this is not asterisked (as is the heated front screen as an option), so I really don't know. I guess the easiest way to tell would be to take an IR thermometer to the mirrors before and shortly after turning on the heated rear screen, to see if the temperature increases.

Sorry for the thread jack OP,

Can you always replace your heated windshield with a non-heated one? Since it is much more expensive?

Yes, just make sure whoever does it wraps the heated windsheild plugs with electrical tape or something, to protect them in case you want to go back to the heated windshield later on.

I just had mine replaced with a non-heated a couple weeks ago.....got a rock chip 2 days later
