Default Work progresses on 03 Discovery

Greetings- I purchased a fixer upper 03 Discovery about a month ago and have been driving it every day. Coolant level is holding steady and changed the oil and going over everything.

I think my major oil leak is power steering fluid and it appears that the steering gear is the wettest. Is this common? It drips and leaves a spot on the ground. I have just been checking the level and adding a little when needed. It looks like someone has put RTV on the adjuster nut area on top of the gear. Weird.

Also it has an exhaust leak which I'm pretty sure is coming from where the pipe bolts to the manifold. I'm wondering if the gaskets are missing or shot. Anyways these are my next 2 tasks.

So far I am really liking it- we had some snow recently and the 4wd works great. I went through 1 tank of gas so far and it averaged out to 11 mpg. Not the greatest but sounds like that is about normal for cold weather short trip driving.

Congrats on the new Disco!
Power steering leaks on Discos are very common. Sometimes it's just a hose but it is usually the steering gear or pump. Try adding Lucas Oil Steering Stabilizer (I think that's what it's called). That sometimes fixes leaks. But if not, you might have to replace the steering gear.

11mpg is pretty normal for the 4.6 when doing short trips.

Good luck!
