Is it worth it?
Hi, sorry im new to lr's and to these forums, I just have a couple quick questions that hopefully some of you experts can help me out with. Im planning on buying a 2000 or 2001 discovery mostly for every day city driving and occasional off-road.
1. will all the maint
1. will all the maint
sorry for some reason it didnt post ..
1. Other than the 3k mile oil changes is there other maintenance that Has to be done or the car will fall appart?
2. Would I be better off just getting a land cruiser and not having to pay for all the repairs.

Not many people on here are going to tell you to get a Land Cruiser. But aside from that, I tell people that you need to set aside about $1000 dollars for first time repairs. Second (or third) owners sometimes get stuck with the last owners problems (hence the fact that they sold the truck or neglected it.). Once you get past that first big hump the best thing you can do is stay on top of every bit of maint. that comes your way. If the check engine light comes on address it ASAP. Oh and FYI, you MUST use premium!
In the buying process, look at more than 1 or 2 if possible and test drive them for a good period of time. If available bring it to a shop and have them look over it for any obvious issues. If you plan off off roading some, look for one with 16" wheels (better off road) and as mentioned stay in the 99-early 01 range because it hasCDL hookup. Dont be afraid to come on here and ask us about anything you may find while searching for your disco!
Last, mike has a great list of what you should do as general mant. at certain milage intervals if you end up purchasing a disco. So ask him for thator maybe he'll post it on here after he seesmyreply. The list is a perfect run down at what you should do to keep ur disco running smooth. Good luck in your search!

You will need to have the front driveshaft rebuilt with greasable u-joints.
You MUST use premium gas.
You must flush the cooling system every 45,000 miles or 3 yrs, which ever is sooner.
Flush the brake fluid every 2 yrs.
Change the differential fluid, transmission fluid and transfer case fluid every 50,000 miles.
Do those things and you will be good to go for 100's of thousands of miles.
And tune-ups every 60,000 miles too.
