I've owned nearly 20 D2's now since 2003 & I currently have 4. 3 I can jump into tomorrow and head off to the Pacific Northwest, Nevada, or Utah no questions asked. Just check the fluids, PSI in the tires, top off the tank, and hit the road. The last one I wouldn't go across to the PNW, but I've already put nearly 100 miles on the 02 Westminster project (this is a project that went from a bunch of pieces to a running/driving LR) and that's on an HP22 with an issue that requires you to manually shift into 1st, get moving, then you can place it into D and it shifts 100% normal.

I've owned and driven a lot of 4x4 SUV's and nothing compares to the RRC/D1/D2. Heck I even would rather drive my D2's vs my wife's LR3. The 3 Jeep's I owned sucked as far as keeping them alive, and they didn't ride or handle nearly as good as a LR. The H3 Alpha I had was a sweet ride, but that 4spd Auto wasn't very refined to the 5.3L V8 at all. It was however extremely reliable and I never opened the hood except for when I was doing an oil change.

Key to a D2 is finding a good one, and then keeping up with the maintenance. TLC on a LR goes a long way.

The new gray 03 beast has got me in the wrong frame of mind to answer this question today...and probably tomorrow...and probably the next day...etc...

After last weekends battle, the gloves are off...and the next fight will be to the death...or until one of us says uncle.

I’m so addicted to rovers now it’s not funny. In the last 14 months I’ve bought 3 d2’s and 2 p38’s. Still constantly searching adds for deals. I finally got a good wheeling trip in last weekend and even with a few minor problems am totally in love with my d2.

My 2001 just clocked 200k km. It's my DD. I eventually see it retiring from that role (as a DD) but I'd have a hard time to part with it.

I bought my D2 with the intent of learning about Land Rovers. I have been extremely happy with my purchase and because I like to turn wrenches, the truck always keep me on my toes. Zero regrets and if Tricky Dick ever dies, another D2 will be on the top of the list unless I can find a Super Charged Range Rover at a fair price.

Yup I like mine, I have been keeping an eye out for a tanked RR with a 4.6 to strip the engine out of to rebuild, nothing wrong with my engine but used parts are hard to find around here. I agree with most these things are so easy to work on lot of room and most things are easy to get at.

God help me, I would. I am already planning what to do with my rust bucket. Maybe prior to conking out I find a good candidate for an LS Swap, or maybe I restore mine as a project. I don't know, I kind of like the idea of a project or I could just swap my motor into a better vehicle. I am sure someone could use the Turner short block when I am done with it, but I am getting attached to it.

What are people paying for that Turner short block, delivered?

I ask because I could rebuild 4.6 V8 **LONG** blocks all day long and deliver them fully rebuilt for $5,000 including Crower performance cam, all new bearings, reconditioned heads, blueprinted piston rings, new timing chain/oil pump gear, Airtex water pump, tested fuel injectors, new lifters, all 8 cylinder sleeves pinned, ARP studs, and of course, my signature Rover mod: all metal Cometic head gaskets installed.

Maybe charge a little extra if someone wanted ported exhaust manifolds to match up with the reconditioned heads for some extra performance and gas mileage improvements.

Any demand for such a service?
