Default WTB 03 Discovery: Needs Help!

Hello LR Fans!

I found this deal for 03 Discovery, here is the link: http://www.howardorloffjaguar.com/si...ude-media=true

Hopefully, the seasoned Discovery owners can help.

Now, does this VIN fall into the defected oil pump range. (And what is the VIN range that is bad for the engine?)

Also, Carfax says the title is a buyback/lemon.

Do you think the problems of the drive shaft or gaskets still exist and not fixed by the manufacture?

All help is appreciated!

It's got the 4.6, so the engine has been replaced. I believe only the 4.0 had the dreaded oil pump issue. Still a bit pricey though, you can do better.

About what price is right? How about the lemon title? Do you think the problem of the 03 models still exists?

It's an '03, which is already cause for alarm. The VIN range has not been a failsafe way to assure you're clear of the oil-pump issue.

CarFax indicates is was a buyback/lemon??? Stay away from this one. There are too many 03 & 04 Discos out there for sale. For that price, you ought to be looking at an '04. That truck is worth about $6500, assuming it is outside of the Oil Pump VIN range.

An '04 will also get you the CDL, which will be very useful if you intend to do any offroading. If the CDL isn't that important to you, save some money by buying an '01 or '02 truck. I've a buddy that just bought a nice completely stock '02 w/ about 80k on it for $4000. It was a soccer mom's grocery-getter in it's former life.

03's came stock with the 4.6. They had the oil pump issue. 02's were the last year for the 4.0.

Bottom line, stay away from this truck, you want to buy a lemon that may also have a soon to be failing engine do to an oil pump/engine issue??? If that doesn't stop you, the current selling price on an 03 is more in the $6500 to $7000 range.
In gereral you should stay away from the 03's because of the engine issue unlee you call Rover with the vinn and see if that vehicle is on their list of possible bad engines.
