Default XYZ/M S Problem

2000 D2. Have flashing M/S and gear selector lights plus limp mode .I put in a new battery and it solved the problem. Drove it around for a bit and then next day back to original problem. What could cause this? Bad alternator which PO said was new? Any ideas?

Any codes? I’d really really really clean those battery terminals, and make absolutely certain they are clamping onto the battery terminals tightly.

If it was the alternator = verify voltage with a meter to quickly check. Engine off = 12.1-12.8v Engine on 13.2-14.1v

there's a huge table in the rave detailing all the different possible causes for the flashing m&s. reading the transmission error code will go a long way towards a useful diagnosis.

2x on making sure everything is tight. I freaked out thinking my tranny was going, but it was just a loose ground that caused it to trigger limp mode. Rule out the easy/cheap stuff 1st and start digging deeper. Follow the neg cable and make sure it's tight and corrosion free beyond just at the bat terminal.
