4.6L GEMS on 3.9L 14CUX Setup:
I'm aware plenty of 4.0/4.2/4.6L engines have gone into a 94-95 D1 using the 14CUX, and basically everything from the original 3.9L setup. However my friend and I have taken that to the next level. My 95 D1 is now running a 4.6L GEMS V8 out of a P38 RR, and we're using the upper 4.6L plenum along with the lower piece with the stacks which means the Lucas TPS is gone, and the original IAC is also gone. We are using the TPS/IAC from the GEMS setup, along with 2 small harnesses to retain the OEM engine wiring harness with hacking into it, but allowing us to use the other style sensors. Then we're using Bosch V8 valve covers to switch the PCV setup to the newer style. Brake Booster line is the newer 96-99 GEMS, and the hard line for the purge canister is also using the newer style line with the push connect on it.
With all those little mods and moving parts around from all the different years. I've pretty much now got a Hybrid 4.6L V8 with newer style sensors, the 4.6L plenum, and still retaining the 14CUX (using a 95 4.2L ECU), and distributor. I'll post pictures when it's all done, but so far she's running great without a single CEL or fault.
This pic = setup is still in beta form. We now have a 96-99 GEMS Brake Booster line running off that nipple by the TB, and the OEM 3.9/4.2L PCV setup will be gone once the Bosch Valve covers are installed and the PCV will go into the lower plenum like a GEMS setup.

Well I finally got the old gal back down to my house. Over Easter weekend I had some free time so I slapped on a set of 99-04 Bosch Valve covers, GEMS PCV hose, and GEMS Valve Cover to Plenum hose, then I used a GEMS vacuum line to the brake booster, and a GEMS evap line to the charcoal canister. That eliminated the 3.9L Flame Trap PCV, the T, and the evap line coming from the lower plenum (which then was used for the GEMS PCV line).
That pretty much completes the 4.6L 14CUX/GEMS setup to being 100% 14CUX compatible but sporting the GEMS 4.6L upper/lower Plenum, TPS, and IAC. Only have about 400 miles on the rebuild but it can cruise at 75MPH like it's nothing now. Zero CEL's and I've just gotta break it in, and check everything once it gets some more miles on it. I would really like a 4/5 row aluminum radiator, but not a single one of those Chinese AliSport knock off's online can verify the oil cooler/trans cooler line fittings, so I'll be saving up for the real deal.
I'm looking into thinning the LR herd a bit. I think I'm going to clean up Old Faithful (my 99 D2), and the 04 D2, and sell them. That will leave me with the 95 D1, 97 D1 XD, 02 Kalahari, and the 06 RRS. I want to setup the 95 for expedition style camping/wheeling, and put the rest of the $$$ into fixing up the XD Body, and giving the Kalahari some TLC that she deserves (might get a 4.6L and HP24).
