Would this kit work with the 4.8 LS? As I understand it they are cheap and plentiful. Everyone wants a 5.3 for obvious reasons, but it seems to me that the 4.8 would prolly have more than enough power.

I guess it depends on how you use it , the 5.3 has more low end torque so if you tow you’ll wish you would have gotten the 5.3 , but if you want to save money and get slightly better gas mileage I guess a 4.8 wouldn’t be a bad 2nd option . I’ve personally never driven a truck with a 4.8

This it the article that got me thinking. I like the idea of getting a cheap motor and upgrading it. Maybe stupid, as you could just buy a 5.3, but I like to take things apart and put them together.

im not sure how much power the stock tranny can handle. I’d be interested to see how much it would cost beefing the tranny up to handle that power

Les Richmond in Australia puts a six speed GM tranny in theirs, and even have paddle shifting where the cruise control is. But they have lockers etc. so no need for TC.

You’d need to tune it to limit the torque on the tranny I suppose, but I don’t think anyon in the states does it. Tornado in England does tune the Bosch ECM.

Stock 4.6 has 300 lb' of torque
Add an aftermarket cam, as many have(without issues), and you can add roughly another 30 to that.
Stock 5.3 has around 365 lb' of torque
D2 transmissions are known to be strong, and go 300-400k miles.
So a stock 5.3 engine should cause no harm to the D2 transmission.

Someone was posting here in the last few weeks, I think from Houston.
They were flashingg D2 ecu's, and working on more settings in it.
Sounded promising.

I hope they do. The $500 and shipping to England seems a pain the ****.

They know what they are about with DII’s tho.
