Default Engine Clicking

The engine in my 2002 freelander makes a clicking noise. Ive been told that its due to low oil, but after having the oil regularly changed and keeping it topped off the problem persists. I took it to the dealer and they told me it was my exhaust manifold, $1800 later the sound was still there. It hasnt seemed to affect the performance but I dont realy drive it too crazy so I really dont know. Has anyone had this same issue? If so what is it and how do I fix it.
Thanks
