Exciting project: 2001 Freelander KV6 engine swap with Toyota 7A-FE engine
Due to persistent overheating, I've decided to drop the failed KV6 engine of my 2001 Freelander 2.5 V6 and pop in a 120hp Toyota 4-cylinder 7A-T20C. I have seen a few (6) Freelanders having had this swap and running fine, most having swapped the entire drive train to Toyota (front wheel drive only) automatic transmission.
I prefer to retain the Steptronic shift and the all-wheel drive of the Freelander. So I wish to retain the original JATCO JF506E gearbox and swap only the engine, harness and ECM but retain the original ETU ECU & ABS system & ECU. However, I have a concern;
How complex will it be to integrate the signals between the systems?
