Default Live en up the forum! 2002 Freelander SE MAF and drive train issues

Here's copy to Sue at freelanderspecialist dot com site.
My lazyness... so please forgive the shortcut method of posting!

Just bought a 2002 LR Freelander SE. It has @ 134,000 miles (here in U.S).
Runs GREAT and I love it.
The history/records of the car are not in possession at the moment.
But, from what I did see on docs., a recent major job has been done. Head gasket replacement and fairly extensive motor (upper end) repair work.
Motor sounds and runs great.
I will fill in details tomorrow when I have paperwork.

The problem: Seems as though after a "freeway 50mph extended run" whereas the motor/trans get's some heat/usage.
Wen coming to stop. The drivetrain feels as the though it's come out of gear while stopped. As though if one were to put the car in nuetral.
Then when starting to accelerate, it will grab abruptly at @800-1000 rpm (maybe incorrect rev's #'s). Will run fine until next stop. And starting up again.
Worst case it will feel as though car has been bumped from rear. So, it feels like a "clutch" is disengaged then slams in to gear when accelerating.
So, only after running it a bit. Not while just around town.

I've read @ solenoid issues in gearbox? Fluids are fine, I believe.
Suggestions? Possible relating to other fuel issues mentioned below?

Meanwhile, the other issue (possibly related?)
I've just replaced the MAF sensor after getting codes P1160.
The replacement is new ($32.00 bought on ebay).
I had left the code active then replaced the sensor, but code didn't clear. So, MAF sensor may not be problem.

So, I've now cleared the codes "P1160" gotten from my scanner, and am hoping it won't come back. I'll put some miles on and get back.
But, re: the 1160 code. I don't want to just start replacing parts if code comes back as I can't seem to find which device to troubleshoot based on that code?
Can you suggest a method to troubleshoot the problem? O2 sensor?

Thanks very much,
Tim
