My Freelander
I bought my 03 freelancer 10 days ago. I really like how it drives. Howe ever, I noticed when i start it that engine makes a noise. It drives well but i just want to know why it is not quite. I'm thinking if it is timing belt that it is starting to wear out or something else. the car has 78,759 miles on it. any insights would be appreciated. thanks

You can download the factory shop manual, called the RAVE, in link below. I'll wager that the previous owner heard that same noise and decided to sell it before the engine blows up.
One way a noise can be isolated is to buy a mechanic's stethoscope, our use a stick or long screw driver held to your ear and toched to various spots. You'll hear much better, and can usually isolate what part of the engine is making the noise. Some Volvos have a sticker on the timing belt cover to change every 50,000 miles. Hondas will pop just after 80,000 miles from personal experience. When a timing belt goes, engine parts collide, all in about 1/100 of a second (2 revolutions at 3000 rpm). Wallet drains really fast after that.
But it could be a lot of other things that make noise.
