Default Rear tailgate window issue

Hi, was hoping someone could give me some pointers about my rear window on a 2000 TD4 freelander. It won't drop the required inch or two to open the tailgate but I can open the tailgate by carefully forcing the glass past the top strip. I read a few posts and tried the "Ignition ON and press foglight" test but didnt open. I removed the battery cable (Neg) for a minute and again nothing. When I press tailgate switch it opens and the noise is the same as always except the window stays up. I've read that cables could be snapped etc but I've looked in there after removing door cover but cant see anything outta place. When I press the consel switch I can hear a clicking noise so think it wants to open. Is it a connection issue or calibration or any ideas. Appreciate any help thanks in advance.

Hi we had a similar problem a few months ago... I replaced the sensor on the back frame where the tailgate closes to,, this worked fine for a couple of months but, has now returned.. i suspect it could be the whole mechanism within the rear tailgate

Cheers for that. Obviously a widespread problem as I've read loads of threads but unfortunately there are various fixes. I'm gonna remove all connections, clean em and put back on. Also read a thread y'day that pointed towards the relays under the LHS boot trim. I can hear a clicking so hoping its a connection issue but will know tomorrow. I'll post what I find. Cheers again for the reply.
