Default Speedometer reading WAY HIGH

Hey guys, just bought an 02 Freelander. And quickly noticed, once I got onto the highway, that the speedometer is reading SUPER HIGH... Ex: matching speeds with my dad going 65mph, the speedometer read 95mph.... Suggestions for how to fix this...?

vehicle speed sensor may be going nuts. Could also be the speedo itself.

I purchased an 04 last year for my son and I seem to be having the same issue except not quite as extreme. Running at about 10 over from what I can pace it at. Anyone?

Reading that high, it is either the speed sensor or aftermarket wheels and tires that are much smaller diameter? Check the actual tires to the door jamb sticker. As for all of my Freelanders, they are approx 5 mph high at 70 mph. IE, 70 on speedometer is really 65.
