Default Starter Motor

Woke up this morning and went to start my 2002 Land Rover Freelander SE and just got some clicking noises. All interior lights, radio, headlights etc work fine. Doesn't even sound like it's trying to start. Maybe a starter motor problem? Spoke to a local mechanic over the phone and he seems to think it is but said the part takes 3 days to come in and will be $297 for a new starter motor. Can something like this be rebuilt?

I also have an issue on my 2002 Disco but I've posted that under that forum - when it rains, it pours!
