Default 02 HSE Unable to open tailgate- button works

I am unable to open the tailgate. The rear window opens fine and I can hear the latch working when I push the button so it's getting power. Any ideas? Are there two seperate solenoids?

You will have to crawl back there and take off the carpeted cover on the tail gate, and see what is not operating properly. If you hear the motor working, there is probably a problem with the linkage.

I replaced a burnt out rear license plate bulb and now it works. I don't know if it was coincidental but it works now...

Are there any videos on youtube or self help with pictures that anyone knows of that show you how to get into the tailgate from inside while it is locked shut? Trying to get the tailgate open after the opening mechanism jams or fails. How do you take the carpet off etc.? Any aftermarket replacement or secondary release switches available?
Thanks
