Default 08 heated seat issue

I'm new to Rovers, and this forum, so go easy please
My drivers side heated seat lights up but doesn't heat. (About 61k on the RR S/C) Is this the same heating pad/wire broken issue as on older RR's or is it different with the Heated and A/C seats on the '08? Any help would be appreciated.

Completely different setup. Yours doesn't have a heating element in the seat at all, based solely off of air flow from the Peltier cell in the climatic unit. Few things to check first, but in the end, it is usually the unit itself.

Does it blow air at all, even if it shuts off a few seconds after trying?

Does it cool?

Does it work when only set to backrest and not seat?

Default no air blowing on the drivers seat

I got in the Rover today and tried both the passenger seat and drivers seat to see if there was a difference in the air flow through the seat cushions. On the drivers side there doesn't seem to be air blowing anywhere, on the passenger side (where the heat works) there is air blowing through the seat. The drivers side doesn't seem to blow on A/C either.

If you restart the vehicle, and use cool before using heat, does the drivers blow air?

Default blows on cool, not hot

Yes the fan will blow on cool when the car is restarted. It shuts off after about 1-2 seconds if you switch to heat from cool.

Start the engine, turn drivers side to cool, press the center button to select backrest only, then turn it to heat, it should remain on backrest only.

If it still fails, you are most likely looking at the seatback unit. I've replaced several, and it is usually due to a failed thermistor in the unit.

It doesn't work when I switch to seat back only...so sounds like the seat back unit. I'll let you know in a couple of weeks when I have time to work through the repair. Thanks for the help!

So the problem was solved...and yes it was the seat back control unit. All is replaced and working wonderfully. Good time too It's been negative degrees frequently for quite a while here in northern IN and we're heading into another big winter storm followed by yet another cold snap. Love the Rover for this kind of weather!
