Default 1992 classic no oil circulation after new oil pump installed

I have a 1992 classic with a p38 4.6 engine upgrade. The oil pump went so had a new one installed. It works but I am not getting any oil circulation to the upper engine. Before taking the engine apart to look for blockages I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas as to why. Thought maybe a part of the old oil pump came loose and is blocking somewhere? Any ideas?

How do you know the oil pump is working?
Did you prime it before you started the engine?
