Default 1997 P38 Stalling Issue

I have a 1997 P38 4.6HSE with 55,000 miles with an intermittent stalling issue. Happens when coming to a stop... Idle drops down to about 500 then zero. Starts up right away and sometimes will allow you to drive the whole day without problems. Sometimes it dies at every stop light. Also seems to happen more when the A/C is on.
I've replaced the camshaft position sensor, one of the high tension wires (#3) that looked corroded, cleaned the MAF and the IACV.
Can't seem to find any vacuum leaks in any of the hoses.
What else do I look into?
Autologic computer is not showing any faults.
Mechanic says the stepper motor needs replacing and the throttle position sensor.
I feel like I'm throwing parts and money at this thing.
Please Help.
Thanks in advance!!

First off, Congrats! A '97 P38 w/ 55k miles! Nice.

Have you checked your crank position sensor? There's a testing procedure on here somewhere hopefully someone else will chime in.

Ooops! I meant Crank Position Sensor... Not Camshaft Position Sensor... Yes, I borrowed one from another unit but still no go... I tried looking for the testing procedure but can't seem to find it
Thanks Coors!

I've also read that the Idle Air Control Valve should be checked and replaced if necessary. I was going through the Atlantic British website and saw that they also carry a Valve Air Control -- Secondary Inject... Question is:

1. Does a 1997 P38 have this? I read in another website that Rover only used this in V8 engines after 1999. But British Atlantic carries it for '95-'02 P38's. Which is info is accurate?

2. Would a faulty Secondary Inject (if my P38 had one) be a contributing factor to the intermittent stalling issue?

Again, hope someone can shed some light on this. Thanks again!

Mine used to do the same thing. The voltage regulator on the alternator fried and was not supplying enough energy to supply pulses to the fuel injectors. Not sure if the problems are related though... An Autozone or equivalent parts store will usually test alternators for free.

You would know if you had SAI, extra parts, some of which looks like corrugated natural gas pipe. I think stepper (IACV) and TPS are candidates. TPS will display as a % reading on an OBDII scanner plugged in, should move smoothly across range, minimum is like 9%. Truck is also supposed to be able to be driven with TPS unplugged.

Go to the active P38 page and just ask the question there, nobody looks here.
