Default 1999 Range Rover 4.0SE

Just bought this vehicle....can anyone tell me if there is a way to fully turn off the heating/cooling system. I've tried to lower the fan all the way and I can only get it to 1 bar. I've tried fan at lowest and hit A/C off but system (display) stayed on. Does it just stay light all the time or do I have an electrical issue?

Please advise.
Thanks
Peter

If you have the owners manual (I am assuming you don't) there is a full explanation on how the system works. Here is what I can tell you and it is only a partial answer. The light on A/C button when lit means the a/c is off. Turn off all defrost modes and see if your fan **** will allow you to turn it off. Also, be sure you have the auto climate control turned off. If that is left on, the system will stay active and try to maintain the temp settings you have chosen. I know there are some sites out there that will give you full (out of the manual) instructions on the HVAC system. Hope this helps...a little.

Correct...I do not have the owners manual. I have tried your scenario...A/C off ....all Auto features and defrosters off and turned the fan control counter clockwise so all the bars no longer show and the system still stays on. I'm assuming it's still on because I the display is still lite with temp numbers showing. I'm guessing I must have an electrical issue or a bad unit. FYI...the unit does work properly.....just can't shut it off. That's why I thought that maybe they are always lite.......

Unless I am wrong, that is normal operation. All of the 4.0/4.6 I've worked on do the same thing. Fan speed all the way down and display/control unit still illuminated, do you hear the blower motor running?

Federal regulations require, even with the system off, that a given amount of air be moved through the passenger compartment in a given time. This is true on all vehicles and more noticable on some like your truck.
