2000 4.6 HSE Tire Selection
There are 50k miles on my 2000 4.6 HSE and the tires need to be replaced. I am having a difficult time choosing between the Michelin Diamaris', Sychrones, XPCs and Dunlop Grandtrek PT9000s. Also would anyone recommend Continental brand tires? I have gotten great wear out of my XPCs but it seems that some time between 2000 and 2002 Land Rover replaced the original equipment of the 4.6 HSE, moving from from XPCs to Sychrones. Which is a better tire? As far as the Diamaris and the Grandtreks are concerned - for those of your who have them - how do they fair in winter weather (I live in NY - all four seasons). THANKS!
I went through a set of XPCs on my Discovery, and got really great treadlife, nearly 70k. I replaced them with XPCs. Now I have an '05 RR with the Sychrones. IMO the tread pattern of the XPC is more aggressive, both in offroad performance and in appearance. The side view of the Synchrone looks more sleek because the outer tread isn't as angular, and looks great on the RR. Both tires provide an adequate ride. I think Michelins are great tires. Order them through Costco and you'll save a bunch. It would be a toss-up for me, and I'd probably shop by price.
The type of tire you use is based on your vehicle use. I use a brand from europe called norkian. high speed tires out of germany. I have used general, continental, and mich. I have gotten good ride and mileage out of all three. I chose them because they give me the qualities I want and the value. Most of my time is on the rode but all three have done well off road with slow speeds. hope it helps. gotta love a rover. duboff
