2002 P-38 Climate control backlighting issue

I just had a LR dealership replace the climate control module in my 2002 P-38
The passenger side of the unit does not have backlighting at night. They tell me it is not supposed too. They open it up and I can see where the light behind the air speed control **** use to be. I can see the clear plastic light diffusers which illuminate the rest of the passenger side of the unit. But the actual plug where you would plug the light in is just not there.
They reordered and the second one is the same.
Can anyone tell me why this would have been changed. I can see diagrams on the web showing how to replace this lamp behind the rotary **** and even purchased a set of backlights. I also know that the unit they originally replaced was backlit on the passenger side of the module.
They told me they would give me a flashlight so I could see it at night.
Can anyone "shed some light" LOL on this situation for me?
Thanks you very much
Wesley
