Default 2003 RR question

Greetings guys, I could get a killer deal for my wife on a low mileage 2003 Range rover and would like to know if there's anything I should know about its weaknesses and other stuff like lets say the oil pump failures on 2003 discoveries, any reason why I should just forget about it and look for a more recent RR ??

Thanks,

Darover.

Well...there is an underlying issue with any Mk III Range Rover (2003-now). The front differential can catastrophically fail. More info here: http://www.rangerovers.net/repairdet...frontdiff.html

If this Range is for sale through a dealer, I would read that article, and then ask the dealer about the problem. Also look into the extended warranty

Actually, the RR is at a shipping company since the owner was transfered to Europe from Canada. I asked the owner about the front axle problem, and he said he never had it in this truck. I would definitely have this shipping company bring the Rover to my local Land Rover dealer and have it checked toroughly.

Its just that the wife usually leases cars for 3 years and therefore always driving new cars under warranty. But the price definitely has us concidering the purchase of that RR. But we can't have a vehicle that is unreliable for her. When I got my D2, I had to spit about $6 grands counting lift and tiresin order to make it as perfect as new, and it now is. But I just don't want to go trough the same thing with any other car EVER.

i am doing front differential recalls now at my shop.
have the dealer run the VIN to see if you need the recall.

Is the front axle the only real problem that RR MK3 owners have to face, or is there a long lkist of them like the Discovery has?

the 03-05 has a BMW engine that is very reliable.
some issues i have found are the leaking radiator, water pump.
but not head gasket stuff.

ORIGINAL: raid13

What kind of motor is in the 06 on up. The Jag motor like in my LR3? Is it not as reliable as the 03 to 05's?

yes, it has a jaguar 4.4 motor and some have a 4.2 supercharged
i thing the jag motors are very reliable as long as you don't drastically overheat
them, like driving with very low coolant ect.
i just wish the diesel engine equipped land rover's would start being
allowed to enter the states, awesome low end torque for offroading.

Hey there,

new here so forgive the clunky interaction.

I just had mine replaced at dealership today as a recall. Land Rover even gave me $150 bucks for the hassle!

Went in for a light bulb issue, and came out well better for the experience. They were great!
