Before I start - I am not an expert so I would take others advise over mine - but I did have similar experience in a different car:
I had this in the wet with my BMW X5. It is a safety function commonly caused by the engine not being able to recognize wheel speed, the gearbox is fine, it's just not letting you select a gear in case it puts too many revs through a gear because it can't tell the speed.
I found this PDF on the repair (page 35) http://ww2.justanswer.com/uploads/ty...-p38-trans.pdf
Would probably use a factory replacement on stuff like that. I don't own a range rover yet, just joined the board for some advice on potentially buying one, but I had this before in another truck and it didn't like autozone et al replacements.

9 times out of 10, solenoid circuit codes are from faulty solenoids. Since the TCM is attached to the valvebody (inside the transmission), there are no wires to worry about. So its either a solenoid or TCM. If you plan on keeping it, you may as well do all the solenoids, they are prone to pressure loss.

Try this
My '06 Sport showed limited gears available and "F" fault. Stuck in park. Found manual override under gear shift. At least I could drive it. Then followed advice on this forum to try "soft" reset by turning ignition on and off three times. It worked. Taking it in anyway to address check engine light. Hope this helps someone.

i have a 2006 Land Rover lr3 with the 4.0 and it's stuck in park but I can put into gear with the shift release and it's stuck in 3rd gear and the code is p0968 pressure regulator solenoid (c) and it's the only system with a code I've tried everything. I've reset it and new battery.

Wanted to get your opinion, you replies are great and make sense. 2006 RR with 115,000 miles 4 days jerked when I moved transmission selector from "Park" to "Drive". Car drives, but only in lower gears. Pressure Solenoid circuit/open faulty code on scanner and limited gears only on dash board. Please help with your recommendation what to do. Thank you in advance.
